Communication Axess Ability Group
is proud to work in Community Partnership with Texas DARS - Department of
Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, Office for Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS) in promoting
equal communication access to people who are deaf or hard of hearing. We
do this by administering a number of DARS funded programs for the benefit of our
consumers.
Deafness Resource Program
The DHHS Specialist Program contracts through local service providers to assist
state and local governments, organizations and private entities in making their
services accessible and readily available to individuals who are deaf or hard of
hearing.
The program also addresses attitudinal and cultural barriers of the target
populations which may hinder successful service delivery, provides information
and referral services, and may provide training geared toward the needs of both
the service population and the service providers.
Deafness Resource Specialists work
with consumers with hearing loss, their families, state, local and federal
agencies, courts, schools/colleges, law enforcement, public and private
businesses and service organizations.

Specialized Telecommunications
Assistance Program
Specialized Telecommunications
Assistance Program (STAP) is a voucher program that provides financial
assistance for the purchase of specialized assistive equipment or services for
individuals whose disability interferes with their ability to access the
telephone network. The program was devised to assist individuals with
disabilities to obtain specialized telecommunications devices or services.
Originally the STAP program targeted four main disability groups; deaf, hard of
hearing/late deafened, deaf-blind and speech impaired. The program has since
been expanded to include any disability that interferes with the individual’s
ability to access the telephone system. CAAG provides an equipment demonstration
room in each program location.
